Newszy: Oman 08-07-2025: Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH), Calicut, Kerala has taken a pioneering leap in urological care with the launch of its Advanced Robotic & Laser Urology Centre, featuring cutting-edge Da Vinci Robotic Surgical technology. The centre was inaugurated by Dr. K G Alexander, Chairman & MD – Baby Memorial Hospitals, who emphasized the transformative potential of robot-assisted surgery in elevating precision, patient outcomes, and safety.

During the launch Press Conference of Advanced Robotic & Laser Urology Centre, held at Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH), Calicut

“Robotic surgery is redefining the possibilities in urological procedures. It empowers surgeons with unparalleled control, dexterity, and visualization, leading to faster recovery and superior clinical outcomes for patients from across specialties including urology, onco surgery, gynaecology, gastro surgery, organ transplant,” said Dr. K G Alexander, Chairman & MD, Baby Memorial Hospitals.

Urology, which focuses on the urinary system and male reproductive organs, has seen revolutionary advancements. Robotic-assisted surgery, particularly with the Da Vinci Surgical System, the world’s most widely used robotic platform—stands as a pivotal breakthrough. Robotic urological surgery offers numerous benefits over traditional methods. Surgeons gain enhanced visualization through HD 3D magnification and superior precision with tremor-free, scaled movements. This minimally invasive approach leads to smaller incisions, less pain, and faster healing, alongside almost nil blood loss and lower infection risk. Patients often require shorter hospital stay, typically within 48 -72 hours, and benefit from better functional outcomes, especially in prostate surgeries (continence, potency). Overall, the controlled sterile environment contributes to improved safety and fewer complication risks.

“With a team of internationally trained robotic urologists, the new centre at BMH is committed to delivering world-class care locally. From complex cancers to reconstructive procedures, BMH’s robotic urology program spans the entire urological spectrum’ said Dr. Ananth Mohan Pai, Cluster CEO, Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut.

The expert urologists at BMH uses the Da Vinci Robotic System for a wide range of conditions. This includes Prostate Cancer (Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy for nerve preservation and improved function), Kidney Cancer (Robotic Partial or Radical Nephrectomy for organ-sparing and quicker recovery), and Bladder Cancer (Robotic Radical Cystectomy with Intracorporeal Urinary Diversion for lower complication rates). The system also treats Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction (Robotic Pyeloplasty with high success rates), Ureteric Strictures (Robotic Ureteral Reconstruction for enhanced precision), and Adrenal Tumors (Robotic Adrenalectomy for a minimally invasive approach). Additionally, it’s utilized for Pelvic Organ Prolapse in women (Robotic Sacrocolpopexy for better anatomical correction) and various Pediatric Urological Disorders (Robotic-assisted Pyeloplasty, Ureteral Reimplantation for superior cosmetic outcomes and reduced pain).
